Tranquil Japanese-Inspired Spa Bathroom & Hobby Rooms in Seattle Mid-Century Home

Goals: To create a Japanese-inspired bathroom oasis, and multiple rooms for guest use and hobbies.

What started as a run-down, partially finished basement turned into a contemporary lower-level outfitted with a spa bathroom and three rooms perfectly suited for the next phase of this homeowner’s life in their classic mid-century home in north Seattle.

Starting in the new bathroom, our homeowner’s dream was to have a Japanese-style wooden bathtub and a luxurious walk-in shower.  Through skillful space planning, we could fit all of their needs and wants into the space that was formerly a non-functioning bathroom and a storage closet.

Nested within the “wet room”, the wooden bathtub is the showpiece of the entire remodel adding a touch of tranquility and luxury that is perfect for everyday use.

The rest of the basement was divided into three additional rooms: a guest room, a sewing room, and a recording suite.  The guest room (not pictured) is a simple space large enough for a queen bed and is en suite to the new bathroom. The sewing room is outfitted with everything the homeowners need to pursue their passion for quilting. We adore the explosion of color and pattern in this creative space!  The recording suite (not pictured) serves as a home office space and features a light-touch level of finish.
